Marquardt Switches, Inc. Hosted Stem Cell Donor Drive in Honor of Marquardt Colleague's 21-Year-Old Son
Late in the evening, on Thursday March 19th, 2015, Marquardt employee, Jürgen Keller, learned the shocking diagnosis of Leukemia for his middle son, 21-year-old Pius Keller. Rather than go-karting, as the kids had planned, Jürgen Keller sat in the hospital with his 3 sons, hearing the news that one of his own children has blood cancer.
In order to beat this illness, Pius will need a stem cell transplant. Unfortunately, testing determined the eldest son was not a match for his brother. The youngest son, 8 years old, was too young to be a donor.
In the month of June, family, friends and colleagues helped to coordinate three stem cell donor drives at Marquardt North American offices, located in Rochester Hills, MI and Cazenovia, NY. All three events brought in over 100 registrants.
Pius is only one of the many who need a stem cell transplant in order to survive. In fact, there are 12,000 people in the U.S. alone, and we can only assist 7,000 of those people. Please help us in bridging the gap for the sake of everyone in need, worldwide.
If you are between the ages of 18 and 60 and wish to become a donor, please visit bethematch.org to find out how you can help.
"You, too, can help by getting the word out about Stem Cell Donations, thereby helping other families in this situation. Please feel free to share this with your friends,"
- Jürgen Keller, Pius' father.
